The City Attorney's Office may not provide advice concerning private legal matters that do not involve the City of Bismarck.
We do provide the following:
- All of the law business in which the City or any of its departments may be involved in.
- Represent the City in all lawsuits or other court proceedings or oversees other attorneys who may be retained by the City to handle certain cases.
- Monitor the progression of cases involving City departments with liability insurance for which the City's insurer retains counsel to represent the City's subrogated interests.
- Advise the Board of City Commissioners and other City officials.
- Manage all damage claims filed against the City.
- Prosecute all ordinance violations in Bismarck Municipal Court and Burleigh County District Court.
- Update City Ordinances.
